Recycling Championship

Mayor's greetings for the 2025-2026 school recycling championship

It is with great pleasure that the 2025–2026 School Recycling Championship begins again this year in the Municipality of Vyronas!
The new school year gives us the opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of recycling and sustainable waste management, while contributing to the creation of a cleaner and healthier city for all of us.

The most appropriate place for such an effort is, of course, our schools — where tomorrow's citizens are educated, who will be called upon to correct the mistakes of the past and shape a more sustainable planet.

For another year, the Municipality of Vyronas is organizing the School Recycling Championship, in which all schools in the city participate. Students collect paper, plastic, metal, electrical appliances and bio-waste, while many school units also have purple bins for clothes.
In kindergartens and daycare centers, the collection of recyclable materials continues through activities adapted to the age of the children.

Special emphasis is given this year to biowaste, an element that can make a difference in reducing waste and saving natural resources.

Like last year, the school that collects —at each educational level— the largest quantities of recyclables per student will win a one-day trip at the expense of the Municipality.

The second and third schools will receive symbolic gifts and praise, as a reward for the efforts of students and teachers.

In addition, a special praise will be awarded to the school that collects the most biowaste per student, regardless of level.

Our goal is to turn recycling into a daily habit, to encourage collaboration and creativity within school communities and to strengthen ecological awareness through actions with joy and reward.

The Municipality of Vyronas will continue to actively support all school initiatives, providing guidance, means and incentives for the success of the program.

I invite you all to participate dynamically and prove, for another year, that Vyronas can be an example of green awareness and responsible waste management!

Mayor's greetings for the 2024-2025 school recycling championship

The recycling championship in the schools of Byron starts this year for the 2024-2025 school year.

In the school units, paper, metal, plastic, electrical appliances and food waste (biowaste) are collected separately, while in most there are purple clothing collection bins outside the units. Also, paper and plastic are collected in kindergartens and paper in daycare centers.

This year we are placing particular emphasis on the collection of biowaste, which is the big bet for reducing waste and saving resources.

The championship will end on the last day of April 2025 and the award concerns the collected quantities of separated waste per student of each school unit.

Last year, recycling festivals were organized in the first two primary schools and symbolic gifts were distributed to all students, while diplomas were awarded at an event in the corresponding secondary schools.

For this year, in addition to the festivals and diplomas, the first in terms of quantities (paper, metal, plastic, electrical appliances and biowaste) per student in the Primary School and the corresponding first in the Secondary School will be rewarded with a day trip in May, the expenses of which will be covered by the Municipality, while the Primary and Secondary Schools that come second in collecting the corresponding quantities will be given a projector as a gift.

Special praise will also be awarded to the school that collects the most biowaste per student in both grades.

We hope that this year all schools will participate even more dynamically and that students and teachers will do their best to make the message of recycling and environmental protection heard even louder!

The Municipality of Byron will be by your side and will support your efforts in every way.
